What’s the workshop about?

Being a Head of Department means more than running a team – it means shaping safety, culture and accountability across the whole production. This half-day course gives HoDs the practical tools to lead with confidence, meet legal obligations, and support crews in high-pressure environments.

Through interactive sessions, case studies and roleplay, participants will:

  • Understand key Legal frameworks under WHS, Fair Work and MEAA agreements, and the duties of PCBUs, Officers and Workers.
  • Explore best practice for people management – hiring and onboarding, handling complaints, fatigue management, and addressing bullying, harassment and discrimination.
  • Develop leadership and accountability on set – informal leadership, psychological safety, culture through conduct, and managing up, down and sideways.
  • Explore practical responsibilities – budgets, risk assessments, boundaries and saying no professionally.
  • Better understand Industry standards and resources – Safe Screens, MEAA and SPA codes, policies and support services.

Every participant leaves with a printed and digital HR for HOD’s Toolkit, including quick-reference guides, templates, and scripts, plus a certificate of attendance.

Designed for HoDs across all departments, this course equips leaders to build safer, fairer, and more professional productions.

This workshop is FREE.
